Lux Advances to Winner’s Bracket Final Four

Lux Homes U-16 opened double-elimination play with a 13-0 win over the Grand Valley Stixx on Wednesday afternoon. Lux broke the game open in the top of the seventh, scoring nine times on six hits to extend the lead to 13-0. Jake Reppert was dominant in the win, pitching the first five innings allowing just 2 hits and a walk while striking out eight. Trevor Dunlap and Zac Brandon threw the sixth and seventh innings respectively, combining to throw just 18 pitches in the process.

Offensively, the contributions came from multiple places. The 4-5-6 combination of Colin Tremblay, Brian Sinclair and Dan McMillan combined to go 7-for-14 with 5 runs scored and 3 RBI. John Shimabukuro was 1-2 with three RBI, Matt Stefansson singled, doubled and scored three times and Zac Brandon had 2 hits and 2 RBI. In an unsung role, Matt Hill was 1-for-1 with an RBI single, a walk and two sacrifice bunts.

The win advances LB into the winner’s bracket final four to face the winner of the Eastlake Tigers and Albequerque Baseball Academy. That game will take place on Thursday at 11:30 am at Canyon View Park.

Lux Sweeps Morning Doubleheader

Lux Homes baseball opened up the Triple Crown World Series in style by sweeping their first two games over the Eagle Valley Knights (CO) and the SUBA Caesars (UT). In the first game, Nori Shimizu, Matt Hill, Brian Sinclair and Trevor Dunlap combined to shut out the Knights in a 14-0, five-inning win. The second game saw Lux put up another 13 runs, topping the Caesars 13-5 in six innings. Andrew Villeneuve was strong over the first four innings, followed by an inning each from Zac Brandon and Jamie Wallace.

Despite the two games in the morning, the day is not done for LB. They will take on New Trier (IL) in their third game of the day at 4:30 at Canyon View Park.

Lux Finishes Kent SI Tournament as Silver Runner-Up

An exciting (and exhausting) nine-day stretch of baseball ended on Sunday with Lux placing second in the Silver championship bracket of the inaugural Kent Sports Illustrated tournament. Lux finished 6-5 over their 11-game, 9-day stretch which included just one home game and multiple trips to the south end for tournament as well as league play.

In the opening day of round robin play in the Sports Illustrated tournament, Lux dropped two games - 8-0 to Dow Baseball and 8-5 to the eventual tournament champion SBA Bombers. They bounced back on Friday with a 16-8 win over the Triple Play Swarm. Based on winning the tiebreaker between Triple Play and Woodinville Baseball, Lux earned the #3 seed from the pod to advance into Sunday’s silver bracket final four.

The Silver bracket semi-final featured a matchup with the Seattle Stars. Lux rode the wave of a 6-run third inning en route to a 9-5 win to advance to the Silver bracket finals. Jamie Wallace cruised through 6 innings before giving way to Andrew Villeneuve, who recorded the final three outs. In the Silver championship, an exhausted Lux team ran out of gas, leading 9-6 after three innings only to give up 11 unanswered runs in a 17-9 defeat to the Washington Ravens.

Lux will play two wood bat practice games this week in preparation for the final week of the season, which they will spend in Grand Junction, Colorado at the Triple Crown World Series. The tournament, which was won in 2007 by the Kirkland Merchants, is a wood bat championship featuring teams from Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Utah and Washington. Tournament play starts on Monday, July 21st.
